The summer before their wedding, a young couple (Gael Garcia Bernal, Hani Furstenberg) are backpacking in the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. They hire a local guide to lead them on a camping trek, and the three set off into a stunning wilderness, a landscape both overwhelmingly open and frighteningly closed. Walking for hours, they trade anecdotes and play games to pass the time of moving through space. And then…a momentary misstep, a gesture that takes only a few seconds, a gesture that's over almost as soon as it begins. But once done, it can't be undone, and it threatens to undo everything the couple believe about each other and themselves.

“In extending a short story to feature length without embellishing it—at least in the plotting—Loktev suffuses the film with the kind of intimate, microscopic detail and observation that’s more common to literature than cinema.” —Scott Tobias, The A.V. Club
