1967, Operation Zipper: Two low-level agents from the CIA's A/V department go undercover on a mission to film a documentary about NASA's Apollo mission, a front for the primary objective to root out a Soviet mole. In disguise as documentary filmmakers, they tap phones, break into offices, and even infiltrate Stanley Kubrick’s set of 2001 while purporting to learn more. Much to the disbelief of the reluctant powers that be, the hapless duo uncover a dark secret about Apollo, and embark on an unauthorized mission to uncover the truth. Shooting in era formats, cleverly inserting archival material as plot device, and inserting nods to film and history buffs alike, filmmaker/star Matt Johnson's contagious enthusiasm spills over into the film itself, a giddy throwback conspiracy tale of the Guy Maddin-meets-Dr. Strangelove persuasion.

“Johnson and company have fabricated an elaborate, period-styled backstory on how a collection of Ivy League film geeks were recruited by the CIA to convince the world that America got there first…this wild, borderline-illegal stunt (for which the improv-ready filmmakers ‘infiltrated’ locations such as NASA and Shepperton Studios in character) delivers big time on its crazy premise.” – Peter Debruge, Variety
