Part of Saturday Family Films and Science On Screen.

Haunted by dreams of space travel and a mysterious blueprint, 12-year-old sci-fi-obsessed Ben Crandall (Ethan Hawke in his first big-screen appearance) reaches out to science prodigy and inventor Wolfgang Muller (River Phoenix, also in his first big-screen appearance) to help fabricate what turns out to be a microchip that creates an electromagnetic shield. The two boys bring a third kid into the scheme, and with some elbow grease and ingenuity, they soon construct a capsule which they can use to convey themselves into the depths of space. Along the way, they are drawn aboard a spacecraft where they encounter extraterrestrial life of a very odd persuasion. From GREMLINS director Joe Dante, this classic 80s slice of cult sci-fi is a blast for the entire family. Age Recommendation: 7+
