Actor and tabloid fodder Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is living at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood. He has a Ferrari to drive around in, and a constant stream of girls and pills to stay in with. Comfortably numbed, Johnny drifts along. Then, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau. Their encounters encourage Johnny to face up to where he is in life. Utilizing a leisurely pace and static imagery, Sofia Coppola’s fourth film is a seductive meditation on the nature of Hollywood celebrity. “Mostly, this 90-minute movie is about time, the preciousness of time...It’s a succession of sensations, of being adrift in a city where the weather seldom changes, where the stars are always young, where children must make their own way. The sky is blue and clear.” - Ray Pride, NewCity Film
