Beatriz (Salma Hayek), an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico, has drawn on her innate kindness to build a career as a health practitioner in Los Angeles. While stranded temporarily at the home of a wealthy client (Nashville’s Connie Britton), she is invited to stay for a dinner celebrating a lucrative business deal between her client’s husband (Jay Duplass) and a cutthroat, self-satisfied billionaire (John Lithgow). An interloper in the cover of this seaside enclave, Beatriz becomes increasingly inquisitive of the motives of her dinner mate to the chagrin of her hosts. Part character-driven chamber drama and part comedy of errors, writer Mike White (SCHOOL OF ROCK, CHUCK AND BUCK) and director Miguel Arteta (THE GOOD GIRL) join forces again for a perhaps unintended but particularly timely critique of class conflict,  set against the backdrop of today’s conflicted America.

“Miguel Arteta and Mike White seem unlikely candidates to produce this generation’s RULES OF THE GAME, but, as the Trump administration proves almost every day, anything is possible.” —Violet Lucca, Film Comment

“Arteta deftly portrays the cocoon of wealth and the shamelessness of those who seek it at all costs...This might be the best performance Salma Hayek has ever given, her quiet, observant reserve eventually giving way to bewilderment and resolve.” —Bilge Ebiri, Village Voice
