TONI MORRISON: THE PIECES I AM is an intimate reflection on the life and works of the legendary storyteller and Nobel Prize winner. From her childhood in the steel town of Lorain, Ohio to ‘70s-era book tours with Muhammad Ali, from the front lines with Angela Davis to her own riverfront writing room—Morrison leads an assembly of peers, critics and colleagues on an exploration of race, American history and the human condition as seen through the prism of her critically acclaimed work as a novelist, Random House editor, Princeton University educator, and activist. Featuring interviews with Hilton Als, Angela Davis, Fran Lebowitz, Walter Mosley, Sonia Sanchez and Oprah Winfrey.

“An eloquent nonfiction biopic...enlivened both by its own storytelling dexterity and by the participation of its subject, who at 87 years old remains as warm, vibrant and insightful as ever.” —Nick Schager, Variety

“Greenfield-Sanders made sure his crew included Black perspectives…[and] makes use of the work of prominent Black visual artists to portray Morrison’s ideas about race, gender, and the history of Black people in America.” —Beandrea July, Out

“Unlike most subjects of documentaries who are long gone before their life's work is categorized and placed on display, there is no speculation about Morrison's journey. She tells it as it was...” —Aramide Tinubu, Shadow and Act
