Tom Grunick (William Hurt), a rising anchorman, has plenty of on-camera savvy, personality and good looks, but little in the way of brains. He may be dumb as a doornail, but Tom's got the star presence his network needs. Then there's Aaron Altman (Albert Brooks), a less than good-looking newsman, who's dedicated, diligent and down-to-earth. Aaron would love to be an anchor but he freezes up the moment he's in front of the camera. Spunky, smart news producer Jane Craig (Holly Hunter) is excellent at her job but has difficulty handling the pressure. Can these workaholics mask their personal quirks long enough to jump-start their professional lives?

BROADCAST NEWS was nominated for seven Academy Awards and selected in 2018 for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

“Among the best movies ever made about journalism...Predicted that the way we feel about the news would become the news itself.” —Haley Mlotek, The Ringer

“Is as knowledgeable about the TV news-gathering process as any movie ever made, but it also has insights into the more personal matter of how people use high-pressure jobs as a way of avoiding time alone with themselves. ” —Roger Ebert, rogerebert.com (Dec 1987)

“Of all the vital elements in the movie, though, the most vital is [Holly] Hunter’s character, the gifted network news producer Jane Craig, both because of the way Brooks wrote her and the way Hunter brings her to life.” —Jen Chaney, Vulture
