Based on S.E. Hinton's best-selling 1967 novel (written when she was a teenager) and directed by Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Francis Ford Coppola, THE OUTSIDERS focuses on the class struggles between two groups of Oklahoma teenagers during the 1960s.

Capturing the intense feelings of being caught between childhood and adulthood, and not belonging anywhere, this 1983 film also served as a launching pad for a slew of future box office names before they were stars—including Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio and Emilio Estevez.

“Funny, touching and revelatory..” —Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

“One of the most overtly aesthetic, art-for-art's-sake films in Hollywood's history...in which angels with dirty faces but immaculately pure hearts burn with a hard, gemlike flame before being snuffed out in their prime.” —Gilbert Adair, Sight and Sound
