In remote Antarctica, a group of American research scientists are disturbed at their base camp by a helicopter shooting at a sled dog. When they take in the dog, it brutally attacks both human beings and canines in the camp — and they discover that the beast can assume the shape of its victims. A resourceful helicopter pilot (Kurt Russell) and the camp doctor (Richard Dysart) lead the camp crew in a desperate battle against the vicious creature before it picks them all off, one by one. Spend your Thanksgiving holiday stranded with MacReady and Childs as they serve up a heaping helping of fried turkey in this beloved classic about group dynamics in the time of an extraterrestrial epidemic.

“Far more terrifying than the grisly special effects is the story’s central idea that your friends and neighbors are no longer who they appear to be, hiding something deadly and foul beneath placid, familiar surfaces.” —Sean Burns, wbur.org

“...A peerless masterpiece of relentless suspense, retina-wrecking visual excess and outright, nihilistic terror….” —Adam Smith, Empire

“THE THING has emerged as one of our most potent modern terrors, combining the icy-cold chill of suspicion and uncertainty with those magnificently imaginative, pre-CG effects blowouts.” —Tom Huddleston, Timeout
