Part of Invasion!

Director Tim Burton’s loving send-up of pulp sci-fi movies and magazines of the ‘50s and ‘60s features an immense, star-studded cast (Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Jim Brown, Pam Grier, Tom Jones, and oh-so-many others) who face an onslaught of comically vicious little green men bent on world domination. Not only one of the most iconic invasion films of the era, it features some of the most biting satire, hilarious set-pieces and outrageous performances of any of our featured films this month — so it only makes sense to close the series out with a bang, and screen it alongside one of Burton’s (and our) favorite films in the genre, Ed Wood’s PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE.

“MARS ATTACKS! will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and it definitely will make you wonder about Earth's ability to defend itself in the face of higher life forms.” —Alison Macor, Austin Chronicle

“Burton's satiric point is that the humans are just as soulless and far-out as the Martians. They're too stunted even to react properly to the invasion; while the world is being incinerated, Vegas still packs 'em in and the White House is still giving tours.” —Peter Rainer, Phoenix New Times

“This is a Tim Burton film after all, a visual feast, both comedic and cinematic, he, like his invaders, is revelling in the planetary destruction he's unleashed, witness the massacre of Congress or the Martians defiling the Easter Island statues. And only in a Tim Burton film could two disembodied heads profess their love for one another.” —Mark Salisbury, Empire Magazine
