Part of Swoon: A Love Series and Pizza And A Movie and Music City Mondays

Pizza and a Movie, co-presented by Slim & Husky's Pizza Beeria and the Belcourt Theatre, is a series of the best Black movies from decades past.

Picture it: Chicago, Illinois, 1997. Hip Hop has left an indelible mark on the Black community, and the art scene is bursting at the seams with vibrancy. The city is in bloom with young musicians, poets, painters and photographers. When the beautiful but jaded photographer, Nina (Nia Long), meets the charms of charismatic writer, Darius (Larenz Tate), flirtatious sparks between them quickly erupt into a full blown, complicated romance.

“LOVE JONES is a love story set in the world of Chicago's middle-class black artists and professionals — which is to say, it shows a world more unfamiliar to moviegoers than the far side of the moon. It is also frankly romantic and erotic and smart.” —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times (Mar 14, 1997)

“Slinky, sexy LOVE JONES brings new life to an old story.” —Janet Maslin, New York Tiimes (Mar 14, 1997)

“What sustains LOVE JONES is its unshakeable belief in itself…. A movie that is exactly what it wants to be, and that's an achievement in a homogenized, test-marketed vanilla-movie landscape.” —G. Allen Johnson, San Francisco Examiner (Mar 14, 1997)
