The Hello in There Foundation, an initiative established by the family of John Prine to celebrate his legacy and commitment to community care, will host a screening of IF DREAMS WERE LIGHTNING, a documentary short that explores the lives of people living in the rural South with limited or no access to healthcare. Shortlisted for an Academy Award, the documentary will premiere on PBS’s Independent Lens in early spring.

Rural hospitals around America are closing at alarming rates, leaving communities without care. Oscar and Emmy-nominated director Ramin Bahrani visits Appalachia, where American communities are left with limited or no access to healthcare. This documentary short explores the rural healthcare crisis in the South through the eyes of those struggling in it and the dedicated doctors trying to reach them. The run time of the film is 26 minutes.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Health Wagon, a nonprofit featured in the film that provides mobile health care to rural areas in Appalachia.
