It started with a poem. A teenage girl. An aunt who was willing to listen.
In 2004, Haviland shared her writing with her Aunt Vali. What followed was unexpected: a gathering of teenage girls, a stage, and a movement called Act Like a GRRRL.
For the next twenty years, GRRRLS have found their voices through writing, performance, friendship, and the radical act of being witnessed.
Then, in 2024, they came back.
GRRRLS ranging in age from 13 to 34, some meeting for the first time, others returning to a community that had shaped them, gathered in Pleasant View, Tennessee, for one audacious experiment: to write, rehearse, and perform an original production in just 7 days.
Filmmaker Grace McKinney was there to capture what happened next: the exhilaration, the chaos, the laughter, the vulnerability, the memories, and the moment when the lights came up on a sold-out World Premiere production.
The show took seven days to make.
The documentary took ten days to shoot.
